Logo-VGR: Visual Grounded Reasoning for Open-world Logo Recognition

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

Recent advances in multimodal large language models (MLLMs) have been primarily evaluated on general-purpose benchmarks, while their applications in domain-specific scenarios, such as intelligent product moderation, remain un-derexplored. To address this gap, we introduce an open-world logo recognition benchmark, a core challenge in product moderation. Unlike traditional logo recognition methods that rely on memorizing representations of tens of thousands of brands--an impractical approach in real-world settings--our proposed method, Logo-VGR, enables generalization to large-scale brand recognition with supervision from only a small subset of brands. Specifically, we reformulate logo recognition as a comparison-based task, requiring the model to match product images with candidate logos rather than directly generating brand labels. We further observe that existing models tend to overfit by memorizing brand distributions instead of learning robust multimodal reasoning, which results in poor performance on unseen brands. To overcome this limitation, Logo-VGR introduces a new paradigm of domain-specific multimodal reasoning: Logo Perception Grounding injects domain knowledge, and Logo-Guided Visual Grounded Reasoning enhances the model's reasoning capability. Experimental results show that Logo-VGR outperforms strong baselines by nearly 10 points in OOD settings, demonstrating superior generalization. In recent years, multimodal large language models (MLLMs)(Bai et al., 2025; Wu et al., 2024; Achiam et al., 2023) have been widely applied across various scenarios. Beyond direct zero-shot problem solving, many studies have emphasized post-training paradigms, such as SFT and PPO(Schulman et al., 2017), as well as GRPO(Shao et al., 2024), to adapt models to downstream tasks better.

RL-LOGO: Deep Reinforcement Learning Localization for Logo Recognition

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

This paper proposes a novel logo image recognition approach incorporating a localization technique based on reinforcement learning. Logo recognition is an image classification task identifying a brand in an image. As the size and position of a logo vary widely from image to image, it is necessary to determine its position for accurate recognition. However, because there is no annotation for the position coordinates, it is impossible to train and infer the location of the logo in the image. Therefore, we propose a deep reinforcement learning localization method for logo recognition (RL-LOGO). It utilizes deep reinforcement learning to identify a logo region in images without annotations of the positions, thereby improving classification accuracy. We demonstrated a significant improvement in accuracy compared with existing methods in several published benchmarks. Specifically, we achieved an 18-point accuracy improvement over competitive methods on the complex dataset Logo-2K+. This demonstrates that the proposed method is a promising approach to logo recognition in real-world applications.

Contrastive Multi-View Textual-Visual Encoding: Towards One Hundred Thousand-Scale One-Shot Logo Identification

arXiv.org Artificial Intelligence

In this paper, we study the problem of identifying logos of business brands in natural scenes in an open-set one-shot setting. This problem setup is significantly more challenging than traditionally-studied 'closed-set' and 'large-scale training samples per category' logo recognition settings. We propose a novel multi-view textual-visual encoding framework that encodes text appearing in the logos as well as the graphical design of the logos to learn robust contrastive representations. These representations are jointly learned for multiple views of logos over a batch and thereby they generalize well to unseen logos. We evaluate our proposed framework for cropped logo verification, cropped logo identification, and end-to-end logo identification in natural scene tasks; and compare it against state-of-the-art methods. Further, the literature lacks a 'very-large-scale' collection of reference logo images that can facilitate the study of one-hundred thousand-scale logo identification. To fill this gap in the literature, we introduce Wikidata Reference Logo Dataset (WiRLD), containing logos for 100K business brands harvested from Wikidata. Our proposed framework that achieves an area under the ROC curve of 91.3% on the QMUL-OpenLogo dataset for the verification task, outperforms state-of-the-art methods by 9.1% and 2.6% on the one-shot logo identification task on the Toplogos-10 and the FlickrLogos32 datasets, respectively. Further, we show that our method is more stable compared to other baselines even when the number of candidate logos is on a 100K scale.
